Controlling Cluster flies

Flies (Brachycera) belong to the order of the bipeds. About 120 families of different types of flies belong to this order. The housefly is the best-known type of fly and almost everything about a fly is very unsanitary, even the way they reproduce. We will help remove the cluster flies.

Cluster flies are infamous for their loud buzz and swarm. They are real herd animals and can be very annoying if you are cycling through them or if they happen to be flying in flock over your garden furniture and refuse to leave.

We have created a summarized article for you. See below for all information about this pest!

    The fly issue

Flies have a health risk to you and everyone around you. In addition, the hum of this flying insect is very annoying and it can also easily spread all kinds of diseases.

Salmonella, cholera, parasitic worms and tuberculosis are examples of diseases that can be spread by flies. There are species that bite humans and animals and that is why it is sometimes also nice for your (pets) animals to tackle the nuisance, if it can no longer be properly controlled by yourself.

A fly infestation can develop in no time, because it only takes a few days for the fly egg to grow into an adult. In addition, females lay between 400-600 eggs during their entire life.

The Cluster fly: a herd animal

Cluster flies are small dark green flies that live in large groups in the cavity walls of buildings. This is where they hibernate after they have laid their eggs in the earth. Cluster flies are attracted by lights of buildings and by leaving a certain substance behind, the other flies from the swarm easily find their way back. In the spring, the large swarms awaken from a resting state and then become active in and around the building. The eggs that a female cluster fly lays hatches within 3 summer days. The larvae parasitize on earthworms that go into the ground. Then they eat the worms from the inside until they can hatch.

Just like the autumn fly, about 1 – 2 generations develop per year. Most nuisance is caused by the large numbers in which they operate.

How do Cluster flies get into your living environment?

Fly infestations are often found in the attic, as this is a place where they can develop quietly and are sometimes easily accessible through cracks and holes or through the roof tiles. Flies can hibernate here without being disturbed, especially when there is a dead mouse or rat that they can feed on. Furthermore, flies can of course easily enter through windows or doors, unless you have taken good precautions, such as installing insect screens.

Do it yourself or outsource it?

There are many DIY products that can go a long way. Installing insect screens is also a good idea. If you cannot resolve it, because the swarms are too large or the problem occurs in your stable or poultry house, we advise you to contact us. We can help you with long-term and effective repel and control.
